Water, electricity and gas: getting connected

Electricity contracts can be with any supplier — you're free to choose or switch; you'll need your NIE, bank account (IBAN), and the property's CUPS number, which is on any previous bill or from the network operator. Water is municipal: contract it with the company that holds the concession for your town — ask the Ayuntamiento or your administrator which one, and bring NIE, deed or rental contract, and IBAN. Mains gas is rare here; most homes use bottled butane (bombonas), delivered on a rota or swapped at petrol stations — a contract with the supplier and a safety check of your installation are required the first time. When buying a home, changing the utility contracts into your name is a normal gestoría task.
