Pets: chips, vets and local rules

Dogs and cats in the Valencia region must be microchipped and registered (the vet does both) and dogs need their rabies vaccination kept current — the vet records it in the pet's passport or health book. Register with any local vet clinic; many have English-speaking staff, and prices are generally lower than northern Europe. Out-of-hours emergencies are covered by on-call vets and 24-hour clinics in the larger towns — save your clinic's emergency number now, not during the emergency. In public, dogs must be leashed, and some breeds classed as potentially dangerous (PPP) require a municipal licence, insurance and muzzle. Beaches ban dogs in summer except designated dog beaches. If you find a stray, call the local police rather than adopting it informally — chips are checked first.

In Rojales / Ciudad Quesada

Several vets around Quesada and Rojales have English-speaking staff; 24-hour clinics are in the Torrevieja area.
