Getting your NIE number

The NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is the foreigner identification number you need for almost everything in Spain: buying property, opening a bank account, signing contracts. Apply at the Oficina de Extranjería in Alicante or at the national police station in Torrevieja. You need form EX-15, your passport plus a copy, and the fee paid via form 790-012 at any bank. Book a cita previa (appointment) online first — walk-ins are not accepted.
