The ITV: Spain's vehicle inspection

The ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos, vehicle inspection) is the roadworthiness test: cars pass first at 4 years old, then every 2 years until 10, then yearly. Book a cita previa (appointment) online with the ITV network for the Valencia region (sitval.com) or turn up at quieter stations and queue — booking is safer. Nearby stations serve the Vega Baja; check which has availability when booking. Bring the vehicle's ficha técnica (technical card) and permiso de circulación (registration document). The sticker goes on the top right of the windscreen; driving with an expired ITV risks a fine and invalidates insurance claims. A failed test (desfavorable) gives you a period to repair and return without paying again — ask the station.
