What a gestoría is and when to use one
A gestoría is a licensed administrative agency that handles Spanish paperwork for a fee: NIE and residency applications, car transfers and licence exchanges, tax returns, autónomo registration, utility changes. Spaniards use them constantly — it isn't an expat crutch, it's how the system is navigated. A good local gestoría knows which office wants which form this month, books the citas, and fixes problems before you ever queue. Fees are usually modest and quoted per trámite; ask up front. For legal disputes you want an abogado (lawyer), and for property conveyancing usually both. Many gestorías in the expat areas work in English — ask neighbours or Sol for one, and bring every document you own to the first visit; they'll tell you what matters.
