Emergency numbers that work here

112 is the single European emergency number — police, fire, ambulance — and operators can usually handle English. It works from any phone, even without credit or a Spanish SIM. Other numbers worth saving: 091 National Police, 062 Guardia Civil (which covers most towns and countryside here), 092 local police, 016 for gender-violence support (doesn't appear on the phone bill), and the national poison information service on 91 562 04 20 (24 hours). For a medical problem that isn't life-threatening, go to your centro de salud during opening hours or the Punto de Atención Continuada (PAC) out of hours rather than calling 112. In an emergency say the town first so the call is routed to the right province.
