Cita previa: booking appointments with Spanish offices
Almost every Spanish public office — police, town hall, tax office, traffic department — requires a cita previa (prior appointment); walk-ins are usually turned away. Book online on each office's website (search the office name plus 'cita previa'), by phone, or ask a gestoría to book for you. You'll need your NIE or passport number. Appointments for popular offices like Extranjería release in batches, often early morning — if none show, try again the next working day rather than refreshing all day. Bring a printout or screenshot of the confirmation, your ID, and copies of every document: Spanish offices love copies. If you can't attend, cancel online so the slot frees up.
